THE TREATMENT

What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy in which a trained therapist applies firm, precise pressure to reflex points on the feet, hands, or face. Each point corresponds to an organ, gland, or system elsewhere in the body, following the zone map set out in the Ingham method. Working those points prompts the nervous system to shift out of its stress response, which is why most people describe a session as calming rather than ticklish.

How a session works

Your first appointment opens with a full consultation covering your health history and what brought you in. You stay fully clothed apart from shoes and socks, resting on a reclining chair. The treatment itself runs 45 to 75 minutes depending on the type you choose.

What to expect in a reflexology session

What clients come for

Most clients book for stress, disrupted sleep, hormonal symptoms, or fertility support. Reflexology is a complementary therapy, not a medical treatment, and it does not diagnose or cure conditions. It sits alongside your medical care rather than replacing it.

Where the reflex points are

The sole of the foot maps the whole body: toes to the head and sinuses, the ball to the chest and lungs, the arch to the digestive organs, the heel to the pelvis and lower back. The walk-through below follows each zone in turn.

Your body has been carrying everything. Let it rest.

Outline of the soles of both feet

Your feet are a map of the rest of you.

Each area of the sole corresponds to a part of the body. Scroll, or choose a zone, to follow it from toes to heel.

The toes

Head and sinuses

The head reflex sits on the pad of the big toe, the sinus reflexes on toes two to five, and the neck at the base of the toes.

The ball of the foot

Chest and lungs

The ball of the foot holds the reflexes for the lungs, the bronchi and the upper back.

The arch

Digestive organs

The arch maps the stomach, the liver and the rest of the digestive tract.

The heel

Pelvis and lower back

The heel holds the reflexes for the pelvis, the hips and the lower back.
